Asian Steak Bites

I have had these moments of complete panic in the last few months as I realize my desperate need for Jesus and my complete and utter complacency for most of my life, even now. I think, my God, what else am I missing? God, where else am I in darkness?

What if I’m making all the wrong decisions?

And then I remember. Samantha, God used Samson. Samson, that complete and utter buffoon whose weaknesses were plenty and well-known, who violated every single covenant his parents established between him and God. And still. God was faithful, and Samson’s story ends in a tragic triumph.

My salvation is not dependent on how well I keep up the bargain, how well I perform, the right decisions I make. It’s not dependent on how many books I read, how well I worship Him, or how much doctrine I understand. It is completely in the hands of God, it rests completely on the faithfulness of God, which, thankfully, is unfailing.

Romans 8: 26-28: Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

This is the God I serve.

I don’t know if making delicious food is the most worthy pursuit. I don’t know if I should be cleaning my house, writing this blog, or taking my kids to the library. But I trust that God will use the things I do to accomplish His purpose. And I know He will. He always has, and He always will.

  1. I have been encouraged by Samson’s story the past few months as well. I didn’t understand, for years, why he was in the Bible. It’s nice to know God’s undeserved favor and grace.
